Kenzo Estate wines are crafted exclusively from grapes grown on the estate’s 70-planted acres.
The purity of the air, unique microclimate, soil profile and gentle slope of Mt. George, located on
the southern end of the Vaca Mountain Range, all contribute to the grapes’ flavor profile.
The 70-acre vineyard is planted in a mosaic of 70 single-acre sub-blocks, and rootstock is custom-selected to match the soils of each sub-block. Quality is assured every year, regardless of the weather, by limiting vine yield to maintain balance.

During the growing season, the area’s characteristic fog tends to roll in during the night and early morning. The radiant sun of the following day chases it away until it returns many hours later. This daily weather phenomenon helps to create microclimates throughout the estate and vineyard blocks. Microclimates are variations of the climate within a given area, usually influenced by hills, hollows, structures or proximity to bodies of water. Kenzo Estate’s microclimates enable the grapes to ripen in cooler temperatures for a longer period of time, which allows the harvest to occur later than at lower-lying vineyards.

Due to the natural topography and the estate’s high elevation, Kenzo Estate grapes grow to maturity wrapped in cool, moist air. This allows for a later harvest and gives the grapes more time to mature and absorb nutrients.
